Leaders in the Making

The idea behind everything we do at Manpower is to help people because we know how stressful and intimidating the job process can be. We work hard at placing job seekers with premier local companies, and when everything comes together as it did recently for Cole Stacy, people’s lives change for the better.

 “I was working at a gas station over the summer right out of high school and my aunt told me about Manpower. She told me about what working as a temp was like and how it gives you the ground to go up the ladders in some businesses and she told me to check out Manpower of Ann Arbor.” Cole explained. “So, I went out and applied… I was pretty young. Everybody was kind of surprised that they let such a young guy in. But I kept my head down, my nose clean, and worked hard and got a job.”

That job was with a well-known company in the Washtenaw County area, Chelsea Milling Company, also known “JIFFY mixes” and home of America’s favorite “JIFFY” Corn Muffin Mix. Chelsea Milling Company has supported local families for well over a century and when Cole first started, he knew right away it unlike anywhere else.

As Cole thought back about his journey, he realized how far he’d come in such a short period of time.  “I was just working for minimum wage. I was just out of high school, I didn’t have an apartment. I didn’t have anything. So, once I got that job through Manpower and JIFFY, I got an apartment, my own car, insurance, the whole nine yards. I’d tell somebody just to stick with it. Obviously if they stick you with a job and you’re not compatible, there’s many other jobs that might be more your interest. All you’ve got to do is speak up.”

Since Cole started with Manpower in July 2018, he had the opportunity to work in a variety of areas at Chelsea Milling Company and learn many new things. In early 2020, Cole applied for a permanent opening, interviewed, and was hired!

Cole is one of the many people we are fortunate to have met and worked with at Manpower, Inc. of Southeastern Michigan. We are excited every day by the opportunities around us and are so very honored when we are introduced to someone who meets that match to turn things around. With so many vital industries and companies in Ann Arbor, Monroe, and the surrounding areas, getting in with the right place can seem like blind luck – but it isn’t.  It’s much more than that. We at Manpower pledge to continue to strive to find the very best matches between our people and our companies. If a match isn’t obvious right away, and you’ve worked your very best effort, we’ll continue to help find the right role. We will always try to help those who need it.
