Tips for Staying Healthy at Work This Cold and Flu Season!

November 30, 2015

Manpower wants you to stay healthy this cold/flu season. So here are some good practices to help prevent catching a cold/flu as well as reminders about what to do if you do get sick.

  • Wash your hands often, preferably with warm water and soap. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing/sneezing or use your sleeve, not your hands.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces not only in your workspace, but also at home and in your vehicle including door handles, light switches, your steering wheel, your cell phone, computer keyboard/mouse, etc.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs are easily transferred this way!
  • Avoid close contact with others who are sick …and keep your distance from others when you are contagious.
  • Get plenty of sleep.
  • Exercise regularly and stay physically active.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, especially water and eat a healthy, nutritious diet. Consider adding a cup of tea and extra fruit and veggies to your daily intake.
  • Get vaccinated. Your doctor’s office and many local pharmacies offer the seasonal flu shot. Manpower also has a list of resources available.
  • Take vitamins/supplements and/or allergy medication (if you suffer from seasonal allergies).
  • Check out Manpower’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for more information on health and wellness. Ask a Manpower representative for details.

If you are on assignment with Manpower and won’t be reporting to work because you are under the weather, remember to call our office as soon as you know you will not be reporting (as well as if you will be late or need to leave early). Someone at Manpower is available to answer your call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. If your call is missed, please leave a clear, detailed message and include the following information:  your full name; the company to which you are assigned; your supervisor’s name; your scheduled report time; the reason for being absent/tardy; and the best phone number to reach you.

Don’t forget to also use good judgment when you are not feeling well. It is recommended you stay home when you are sick and contagious so you do not infect your co-workers. However, be aware of your attendance and how much time you are missing. Your team is counting on you and needs you back to work as soon as possible!

Take care this season!
